The 990 r has an inch more travel and is slightly more friendly off road. If the 690 was a 10(1-10 scale, 10 being amazing) for off road dual sport would the 990 be a 9 and the 1190 an 8 or would the 1190 be more like a 7 or 6. I'm worried that the benefits of the 1190 would/would not be worth getting it instead of the 990.
Is the used one worth the $5k in savings or are the updates on the 2023 vs the 2020 substantial enough to not justify. 500 EXC, RC8, KTM 690, 790, 990, 1190, 1290
Multistrada vs. KTM1190 ADV. I got a chance to ride my multi and a new KTM 1190 (the non-R version) back to back today. First off let me tell you, the KTM oozes quality. From the paint to the fasteners this bike is top notch. I love the spoke wheels and the 19inch front wheel size. It seems to make so much sense for a bike that has off-road
Location: New York City. So, here are the steps, overall: Strip down bike, remove valve covers. Rotate rear cylinder to TDC, and measure clearances. Rotate front cylinder to TDC, and measure clearances. Adjust if necessary. Things I've noticed KTM has changed which make my jor easier than on the 950:
The 790 motor is livelier than the Honda’s—a given, really, when you consider the capacity difference. The KTM’s internals are much lighter, and the motor spins up with an intoxicating velocity that makes you want to wick it up and cut all kinds of funky angles with that forgiving chassis.
The later 1090/1290 of which the 1290 SAT and SAS also had electronic suspension the spindle carriers were beefier, and those with a single spring, it was rated at around13N/mm. Those without electronic suspension had a spring in each fork rated at 6.0N/mm each, which was much better and was observed to be stiffer by riders who came from the
For a moment, I though “Huh, 2 stroke”. Just for a moment… During my visit with my local KTM dealer, today (a couple hours ago), he stated “mid-may” for availability of the 790 Adventure (Arizona). I sat on the 790 Duke that was on the floor. That cycle is *tiny* compared to the 1090, 1190, and 1290 that were right next to it.
If I had bought a KTM 1290SA I would have compared it against the XP but since I bought the 1190 then that is were the comparison comes from. Anyway although I do not disagree with you my wallet does, the 1290SA as a second-hand bike would have come in around ÂŁ3,000 more than the 1190. To deep for my pockets. #4.
A well-equipped Super Adventure built for overlanding on tough terrain. When KTM introduced the 1290 Super Adventure in 2015, it was advertised as a bigger, smoother, long-range adventure touring bike. Not much was mentioned about its off-road capabilities and many assumed it would be too big and heavy for serious off-road use.
